The
Chicago Institute for Voice Care at the UIC Medical
Center is a comprehensive voice treatment center dedicated to
the care of voice and airway disorders. Its
mission is to advance diagnostic and treatment protocals in professional voice care, neurologic voice
disorders, laryngeal cancer, airway stenosis (narrowing)
and scarring, laryngeal papillomatosis, spasmodic
dysphonia, acid reflux, and other ailments that affect
the larynx and trachea. The Chicago Institute for
Voice Care is headed by laryngologist/voice specialist
H. Steven Sims, M.D. who specializes in the treatment of
disorders of the speaking voice.
Closely affiliated with The Chicago Institute for Voice
Care are physician specialists in gastroenterology,
neurology, GI surgery, as well as other physicians and
health care professionals. Because the voice team
includes physicians and therapists who are also
performing artists themselves and is affiliated with the
Arts Medicine Project at the UIC Medical Center, The
Chicago Institute for Voice Care is able to provide an
unparalleled level of expertise and understanding of the
unique needs and vocal demands of professional singers,
actors, and public speakers.
The Chicago Institute for Voice Care is also dedicated
to state of the art diagnosis and treatment of all
persons with speaking and singing voice complaints, and
faculty at The Chicago Institute for Voice Care are
available for consultation on maximizing vocal
